urge for the ungraspable

I wake up, and the only thing I really want to do is to get teletransported into a novel or an exhibition or a performance or a concert or whatever communicates aesthetically - (also & primarily) at a non-intellectual level;

Would someone please give me an aesthetic event?

Still, I'm obliged to work most of the weekend (and although that involves writing, it more than anything will be about hard work & reflection - and I really love that - but right now I need something else, too -.) and there is not much room to take the time to displace myself into one of those other worlds; at least not for longer time sequences.

The reading will have to wait until after Monday - and at that point I will need smth that dynamically really hits me (call for recommendations!!) - but what I can and will do within the next 9 hours is to treat myself to visit the ongoing exhibition in Kunsthal Charlottenborg in Nyhavn p.t showing Action and Remains - Al Hansen
& Arthur Køpcke - two of the Danish artists of the fluxus movement. I've had it recommended, and just knowing that I'll get there during the day makes me feel better right away. Voilà. The mere expectation...

I''ll now pour my cuppa tea, get some short bread and start writing.

frontpage by søerne

Yesterday I spent the afternoon and early evening at Frontpage by søerne - first preparing for discussing my paper with a dear friend & colleague, then actually discussing it - which was incredibly rewarding and inspiring - and unvaluably useful for the work I will be doing this weekend - thereafter to be joined by even other dear friends & colleagues for beer and the semifinal of the European soccer championship. Before 12ish we walked over søerne in the warm June night - under the beautiful blue lit sky. It was one of those memorable, magnificent summer moments. Magically marvelous.

tip toeing off

After two days of WE - birthdaying, tivoliing, pique niqueing and generally familying, I'm back at the uni today. In a way it was weird to sneak off before saying hi to everyone this morning, but it's actually a lot like last summer when I got off and had reading time before everyone woke up - for instance by the sea, only to rejoin them around 10ish - 11ish for late breakfast on the terrace. This summer I will rejoin everyone later - after they've had their fun & sights & ice cream and all :)

Stepping out of la vie dormante where all the loved ones breath heavily, comfortably, peacefully, is so literally like stepping out. Entering the streets, feeling the fresh Cph summer air, walking in the little streets, heading for the uni - mmmmmm! And they'll all wake up to the summery vacational state in a bit. Love it.

Love it. Love it. Love it.

late lunch in the botanical garden

knitting, soup bubbling, watching and diaboloing

In the botanical garden.

smoked chicken

I bought a smoked chicken from the butcher's the other day - for a chicken salad that my daughter wanted for her birthday dinner. As opposed to the barbecued chicken that we usually use in Norway, this needed a little simmering before being put in the salad. But once that was done, it did the trick - and everyone was happy about the result :)

midsummer night at amager strand

We had a lovely, lovely celebration of midsummer night at Amager Strand last night - starting with delicious dinner at some dear, new friends' house, followed by a refreshing stroll by the numerous bonfires on the beach afterwards. After a long windy day with dark clouds and rain in the air, we had a light blue summer night sky over our heads as the sun turned, accompanied by mysic and laughter and happy Danes, this longest northern hemisphere night 08.

did it

I just finished my paper draft, and sent it off for competent reading. Now to the airport to pick up my lovies!!! They're 90 minutes late due to delays - but soon, soon, SOON... :D

That was it for my 5 weeks alone. I survived - and got a whole lot of work done. I can definitely do it again sometime.

realization

I quickly realized why I don't usually eat Nutella to get lasting energy and nutrition. I have never become so hungry so fast after having eaten before... Back to the cereals.

on to the nutella

- being a good sign; writing like a madwoman - and remembering to eat - more energy; now!

sunday...

I've been up working for one and a half hours already, and in 12 hours they'll be here :) Better get things done!

Saturday, June 21

countdown

In 20 hours I'm hugging my loved ones. Mmmmmm...! But before that some sleep - and the last effort towards the draft for the paper tomorrow.

one of those dinners

5 hours conversation about food, friends, knitting, books, authors, Bakhtin, Stridsberg, Aidt, Bruhn, Munk Rösing, Gemzøe, Helle, everyday, the aesthetic event, STING 08, tea, Tromsø, teaching, reading, Cph, Schæffergården ~ mmm...! ;)

(and yes; there are leftovers)

dinner guests

I am preparing dinner for more than myself for the first time since I don't know when. I will be serving my favourite guacamole avocado creme fraiche garlic dip with the apéritif, I will be serving homemade spicy tomatoe soup with different onions, garlic, tons of basil & chili that has been soothing since yesterday - with a heart of creme fraiche, I will be serving oven baked vegetables sprinkled with olive oil, I will be serving a Toscana salad, I will be serving a tomatoe and mozarella salad with basil, I will be serving gorgonzola and parmesan tortellini with pepper pesto, I will be serving italian bread from presumably one of the best bakers in Cph (in Nansenvej - that is except the one in Christianshavn...), I will be serving brie and italian saucisson - and Chardonnay from Argentina to go with the lot. - and for dessert; ecological vanilla ice cream with bourbon vanilla. My guests arrive in 5 minutes. I hope they are hungry.

ute etter øl

Somebody actually thinks it's the men who go out for beer. Well; if so, that was before. At least I have been out for beer today - and found it in enormous quantities in Ryesgade and Ravnsborggade - two consecutive streets off Frederiksborgsgade when you come across the brigde from Nørreport.

In Ryesgade I found Nørreport Bryghus - where they also recommended me Cphs best special beer store in Ravnsborggade: Høkeren. At Høkeren they also have the glasses you need. I pass on the recommendation; incredibly competent beer lovers who guide you in what seems like beer heaven... ;)

Now; 13 chilled special beers and two special glasses awaiting someone who earned it a thousand times or so. You can come now!

soon to be sunday

When I woke up this morning, listening to the quiet streets outside my flat, I for a few seconds thought it was Sunday. The Sunday. That I would get up and eat and prepare the house for The Arrival, and then work a bit before taking off to the airport to fetch the little ones and the big one - but then it wasn't. (Well actually it would be the little ones and the big ones - and in some manner of speaking it is now only the big ones - my little one had his last day of kindergarden yesterday - and I don't know how that is possible - but it is, and I'll just have to get used to it). It's Saturday, only, and it's luckily Saturday, too, because I have a ton of work and errands I have to do before it becomes Sunday.

I am writing out the last sketch of my paper to send over to a few competent readers for comments, and I am tracking down a beer store that presumably has very good beer for someone arriving who can like that (that would be The big one). I don't know where 5 weeks went either - but they did - and in some ways it seems to be more than 5 weeks, too, because so much has happened - and so much has been put into them.

Well; better get started for that work load. And soon...! Very soon. It is suddenly to be Sunday.

my favourite shoes

They haven't been used in at least two years, because several shoe menders have been incapable of fixing the torn leather. Here in Copenhagen though, they did it. I was recommended the best shoe mender in town; Teaterskomageren - and he did the trick. Cannot wait to wear them again :D (And I'm not one of those shoe people - it's just; these are so good!!)

finally under my feet

Last time I was here, a few weeks ago, I somehow didn't get around to wander about the park as I had planned for a year. Tonight I did.
